Comcast eliminates 634 jobs at its Philadelphia headquarters in a company-wide redesign
Comcast is eliminating 634 positions at its two Center City Philadelphia towers, with separations starting December 31, 2026, under a restructuring the company says will also create more than 1,100 new jobs nationwide. State filings document 912 cuts across Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Washington; the company has not disclosed a companywide total.
Comcast filed a WARN notice with Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor & Industry covering 634 workers at the Comcast Technology Center, 1800 Arch Street, and 1701 JFK Boulevard, with layoffs beginning December 31, 2026 and running through December 31, 2027. The notice was filed October 29, the same day Washington state received a notice for 159 permanent layoffs, and New Jersey’s October WARN archive lists 119 cuts across nine counties — Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Monmouth, Ocean and Union — effective January 27, 2027. Together, the three filings document 912 jobs.
The Philadelphia Inquirer also reported 82 cuts in California. No California WARN filing for Comcast appears in US Layoff Radar’s data, and Comcast has not said how many jobs it is cutting company-wide.
“Comcast is fundamentally redesigning our organization to build a more agile company and better serve our customers,” the company wrote in its WARN notice to the Pennsylvania labor department. “These changes will help us accelerate innovation and compete more effectively in a rapidly changing industry.” Chief Financial Officer Jason Armstrong told investors on the company’s October 22 earnings call that Comcast is “simplifying our organizational structure to move faster, improve execution and operate more efficiently.” Affected employees received two months’ notice, will be considered for other roles within the company, and will receive severance benefits if they do not secure a new position. Comcast said none of the affected workers belong to a union.
At the same time, the company plans to add more than 1,100 positions across its U.S. campuses, including about 500 in Philadelphia. More than 8,000 people work at the two Center City towers, so the 634 cuts represent nearly 8% of that workforce — a net reduction of 1.8% once the new Philadelphia hires are counted, according to Technical.ly. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the cuts hit engineers, product managers, executive assistants, social media analysts, business analysts, information technology leaders and construction specialists. Comcast employs about 15,000 people in the Philadelphia area.
Comcast told investors to expect a restructuring charge of more than $1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2026, covering severance and related costs. The restructuring comes as the company’s broadband business faces growing competition: Comcast lost a reported 144,000 residential broadband customers in the third quarter, up from 91,000 a year earlier, according to Technical.ly. On the October 22 call, executives also discussed using AI agents in customer service. Comcast employed about 179,000 people at the end of 2025.
The cuts come as Comcast prepares to separate into two companies. In June 2026 it announced plans to spin off NBCUniversal and Sky into a standalone publicly traded company, targeted for completion in mid-2027, leaving Comcast focused on broadband, wireless and business technology services. Comcast completed an earlier separation, the Versant cable-networks spinoff, in January 2026.
In US Layoff Radar’s 46-state WARN data, only Washington’s 159-job filing is recorded so far; the Pennsylvania and New Jersey filings will be added as those states’ sources publish them. The data also records an earlier round: 302 jobs in Colorado and 240 in Georgia, both noticed in October 2025 and effective December 31, 2025, plus 42 in Maryland.
